Science on the brain

Akisha Bedgisoff, 14, from Enumclaw, examines a human brain at the University of Washington during a Wednesday gathering to celebrate national Brain Awareness Week. Her brother Damon, left, and Briggan Weaver, right, from Lake Forest Park Elementary School, also were among 700 local elementary- and middle-school students taking part. The students learned about the brain and the benefits of neuroscience research through 50 hands-on stations and a lecture by Eric Chudler, a research associate professor in the UW Department of Bioengineering. Chudler also is the creator of Neuroscience for Kids (http://faculty.washington.edu/chudler/neurok.html), a Web resource to help students and teachers learn about the brain.
