Joe Sutter, the "father of the 747," grew up on Beacon Hill watching planes fly into Boeing Field and dreaming of becoming an aeronautical engineer. He was on hand this spring for the delivery of the first 747-8 Intercontinental to Lufthansa Airlines at Paine Field. The latest 747 is 18 feet longer than the original, and employs the same engine and cockpit technology as the 787 Dreamliner.
