Seeing the Olympic Peninsula's Elwha River, reborn as dams come down

Andy Ritchie, restoration hydrologist for the National Park Service, stands on a gigantic stump exposed on the east side of the former Lake Aldwell. The size of the stump gives a hint of the grandeur of the ancient forests that were cut before Elwha Dam was constructed in the early 1900s.
