From wild birds to beet seeds, the Skagit Valley's riches are being kept safe

The trail on the east shore of Padilla Bay runs along the top of one of the many dikes that were built to reclaim farmland on the mud flats. A new worry is an increase in crude-oil trains running to the refineries in Anacortes, in the distance.
