Four stories up, a view, a garden, a place to unwind

The Capitol Hill building (originally apartments) was built in 1926, but the wood and steel stairway leading up to the roof deck is sleekly modern. Architect Jim Castanes and his family own two top-floor units, and he designed the stairway to be both architectural feature and passage to the garden up on the roof.
