The next giant quake: It’s coming and here’s how

The 2001 Nisqually quake wrecked the Pioneer Square office of Kevin Eckert and Laura Hafermann. The Northwest is still not prepared for the magnitude 9.0 megaquake and tsunami in our future. Washington and Oregon’s new resilience plans warn that “a policy of business as usual implies a post-earthquake future that could consist of decades of economic and population decline — in effect, a ‘lost generation.’ ”
