The Dec. 26, 2004, megaquake on a subduction zone off the coast of Sumatra opened the world’s eyes to the terrible power of tsunamis. More than 230,000 people died in 14 countries. Tsunami experts were stunned by the size of the surges, which topped 90 feet. These before and after photos show the devastation in Banda Aceh, Indonesia.
