Lacy Steele, 81, was president of the local NAACP for 26 years. The mosaic behind him is of slain civil-rights leader Medgar Evers. Steele worked at Boeing for 38 years and was the first African-American manager in the aerospace division. He still goes to the NAACP offices three days a week to answer phones.
