A German import helps keep factories humming

Jeff Lewis Neal works on a vehicle at BMW's plant in Greer, S.C. The German firm offers a BMW Scholars program in which apprentices, mostly in their 20s and 30s, study full time at a technical college for two years while also working in the factory for 20 hours a week. Other apprenticeship programs in the state cater to high-school students.
