Jockey Anne Sanguinetti takes to the scale for a “weigh-out” in the jockeys’ quarters this past June before her first race back following an ankle injury. Before and after each race, a jockey is weighed with their equipment to ensure they are at their declared weight for that horse. If a jockey is more than 2 pounds overweight, he or she needs approval from the horse’s owner or trainer to ride.
