Map: How states fare keeping guns from the mentally ill

More states than ever require mental-health commitments, not just felony convictions, to be reported to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), a database identifying those barred from legally purchasing a weapon. Ten states do not require such records to be submitted.
