New releases

“The Normal Bar: The Surprising Secrets of Happy Couples and What They Reveal About Creating a New Normal in Your Relationship” by Chrisanna Northrup, Pepper Schwartz, James Witte (Harmony, $25). A wellness entrepreneur and two sociologists, including University of Washington’s Pepper Schwartz, surveyed nearly 100,000 people around the world to ask about their emotional and sexual lives. From that study comes this guide to a happy relationship, with tried and true tips from others who have learned the hard way.

“The Alpine Xanadu: An Emma Lord Mystery” by Mary Daheim (Ballantine, $26). Emma Lord, the feisty small-town newspaper editor/sleuth in Seattle writer Daheim’s long-running series, has her hands full: A dubious rehab facility is moving into town; a local dies — perhaps not accidentally — when electrocuted atop an electric pole; Emma’s House & Home editor is missing; and her romance with the town sheriff is heating up.

“Crystal Cove: A Friday Harbor Novel” by Lisa Kleypas (St. Martin’s Griffin, $14.99). A Friday Harbor woman, cursed at birth to never find her soul mate, is determined to change her fate. But complications arise, and the mysterious arrival of a soulless man puts in danger everything she holds dear. Kleypas lives in Washington.

“Images of America: Washington’s Highway 99” by Chuck Flood (Arcadia, $21.99). This collection of more than 200 vintage images from the last century takes readers on a virtual road trip down Highway 99 from Blaine in Whatcom County, to Vancouver, Wash.
