New releases

“There. Here.” by Stan Sanvel Rubin (Lost Horse Press, $18). Rubin, founding member of the Rainier Writing Workshop low-residency MFA at Pacific Lutheran University, produces a collection of poems that explore dichotomy and paradox, such as silence and sound.

“Cruel Beauty” by Rosamund Hodge (Balzer + Bray, $17.99). The Seattle writer produces a young adult novel based on the classic fairy tale “Beauty and the Beast.” It tells a tale of deep desire and changing destiny.

“The House Girl” by Tara Conklin (Morrow, $14.99). New in paperback: the Seattle writer spins a yarn that intertwines the stories of a runaway slave with that of a young lawyer in 21st-century Manhattan. “Conklin, a former litigator who’s previously published several works of short fiction, is a skilled writer ... who knows how to craft a thoughtful page-turner,” said Seattle Times reviewer Moira Macdonald.

“The Ascendant” by Drew Chapman (Simon & Schuster, $25). When Wall Street superstar Garrett Reilly notices that 200 billion dollars’ worth of Treasury bonds are being sold off in a suspicious way, he becomes a wanted man. Chapman lives part time in Seattle.
