Amazon opens online toy, baby stores
Seattle Times retail reporter
Amazon.com today opened new toy and baby stores online — just days after ending its long-term contract with Toysrus.com.
Toys R Us won the right in February to sever its 10-year agreement with Amazon, after a protracted legal battle over the terms of the original agreement. The ruling put into motion a 90-day separation agreement between the companies that ended July 1.
Amazon has appealed the decision.
Toys R Us relaunched its Toysrus.com and Babiesrus.com Web sites Saturday, with a new look and new e-commerce partner, King of Prussia, Pa.-based GSI Commerce.
Amazon said its new toy and baby stores now offer two times the selection, and orders for the first time would be eligible for its free-shipping offers.
The company's shares Wednesday fell $1.50, to close at $37.11.
