An estimated 6,000 people showed up for the Friday morning opening of Westfield Southcenter's 400,000-square-foot expansion, which makes room for an additional 75 shops, new restaurants and a 16-screen AMC movie theater. Opening ceremonies included an appearance by Gov. Christine Gregoire, live music and aerial acrobatics. Shoppers reportedly began lining up as early as 1 a.m.

After the 10 a.m. Southcenter opening, long lines quickly formed outside "fast-fashion" retailer H&M's first Seattle-area store. They continued through the day as employees limited entries to the store's 700-person capacity.
