Mylan promotes COO Bresch to president

Pharmaceutical company Mylan Inc. said Wednesday it promoted chief operating officer Heather Bresch to the post of president.

PITTSBURGH —

Pharmaceutical company Mylan Inc. said Wednesday it promoted chief operating officer Heather Bresch to the post of president.

Rajiv Malik will succeed Bresch as chief operating officer.

Bresch has been with the company for 17 years. As chief integration officer, Mylan said she oversaw the company's transformation into an efficient generics and specialty pharmaceutical company. She has also been senior vice president of strategic corporate development and head of North American operations.

In addition, the Pittsburgh-based company tapped Teva Pharmaceuticals executive Timothy Sawyer as its senior vice president of strategic corporate development.

Mylan said the changes position the company for further expansion.

Its shares rose 35 cents, or 2.8 percent, to close at $12.91.
