SMALL BUICK: Buick, the General Motors brand once known for large luxury sedans, plans to build a small crossover vehicle at a factory north of Detroit, according to a person briefed on the plans.

THE REASONS: The average age of a Buick buyer is about 65, and GM wants to lower that by offering smaller, sportier vehicles.

THE VEHICLE: The crossover, which is like a sport utility vehicle but built on car underpinnings, will be built at the Orion Township, Michigan, factory that will make the Chevrolet Aveo subcompact, said the person, who asked not to be identified because the plans have not been announced.
