Green cards for permanent residents green again

The green card carried by foreign-born residents living permanently in the U.S. is officially green again.

Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON —

The green card carried by foreign-born residents living permanently in the U.S. is officially green again.

The Homeland Security Department is issuing a redesigned "green card" that is stacked with safety features to help combat fraud and counterfeiting.

The card has been a variety of colors over its decades-long history. The new design has lettering and green shading that make it easier for immigration officials to recognize it.

The card signifies that its holder entered legally and is allowed to live and work in the U.S.
