Rewind: Live chat on the $25 billion national mortgage settlement

Washington state is one of the eight states that led the negotiations with five of the nation's largest mortgage servicers, culminating in last week's $25 billion national mortgage settlement.

David Huey,senior counsel with the state Attorney General's consumer protection division,was one of the lead state negotiators in last week's national mortgage settlement with the nation's five largest mortgage servicers. He'sreceived national recognition for his work on multi-statesettlements with Countrywide Financial, Ameriquest Mortgage and Household International. He took readers' questions about the settlement in a live chat Thursday.

Also joining the chat was Marc Cote, program director of the Washington Homeownership Resource Center and Parkview Services, which runs the state's foreclosure prevention hotline (877-894-HOME). The hotline, which connects homeowners with housing counselors, has seen a surge in calls since the state'sForeclosure Fairness Act became law last summer. He is a 2011 recipient of the Washington State Housing Finance Commission's Friend of Housing award.

And Sanjay Bhatt, who writes about banks and the economy for The Seattle Times, also joined the chat to talk about his role reporting the foreclosure settlement.
