Infratel, a Seattle Internet phone company, announced Tuesday it has secured $3 million inventure capital financing.

The company, which has headquarters in the booming South Lake Union tech cluster, provides cloud-based business telephone services, such as voice mail, call routing and an automated attendant.

Infratel targets small companies that don't have dedicated phone lines. Chief Executive Bryan Goode said his company gives small-scale business people, many of whom use personal cellphones for business, a more polished telephonic presence.

"We offer a call management system that makes them sound more professional," Goode said.

The new funding will largely go to enhance Infratel'smarketing operations at itsSeattle headquarters, which has eight of the 40 employees the company has worldwide.

Goode sees opportunity for growth in the U.S. and Western Europe. There are 11 million companies in those markets that havea website but no phone system,he said.

Infratel has a sales and engineering office in St. Petersburg, Russia, and a sales office in Singapore. Goode declined to disclose the company's 2011 revenue, and said it'snot profitable now.

Part of the fundingcame from companyfounder Serguei Beloussov, who is also senior founding partnerof Runa Capital, the secondary financier in this deal, after Moscow-based Prostor Capital. Beloussov founded Infratel in 1999, and now serves as its chairman of the board.

"The unique technology platform and business model make Infratel a significant acquisition," said Beloussov in a statement.
