Alaska, Horizon workers get bonuses averaging $8,000

Local employees of Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air are receiving annual incentive bonuses averaging $8,000.
The size of the bonuses, more than five weeks’ pay for most workers, is based on meeting specific companywide goals for safety, customer satisfaction, cost control and profit.
Alaska Air Group on Wednesday paid nearly $51.3 million — 62 percent of the total — to about 6,400 Alaska and Horizon employees in the Puget Sound area.
An additional $11 million went to 2,026 employees in the Portland area, while workers throughout the state of Alaska received $8.2 million.
Last month, Alaska Air Group reported a 2013 net profit of $508 million, or $7.16 per diluted share.
These annual bonuses for the company’s 2013 performance are in addition to $1,150 in monthly bonuses paid to most employees throughout the year for achieving on-time and customer-satisfaction goals.
Alaska Airlines has ranked “Highest in Customer Satisfaction Among Traditional Network Carriers” in the J.D. Power U.S. airline customer survey for six consecutive years through 2013.
The combined monthly and annual bonuses amounted to nearly $105 million, the highest in Alaska Air Group’s history.
