Star of the game

Oregon running back Kenjon Barner was a slippery target for the Cougars. He got loose for 195 yards on 20 carries and three touchdowns.

Play of the game

Oregon took complete control when Avery Patterson gobbled up an interception of a Connor Halliday pass on a deep out route and raced 34 yards for a touchdown to help the Ducks to a 37-19 lead in the third quarter.

Turning point

The Cougars had momentum, a first-and-10 at the Oregon 17 and trailed just 23-19 with a minute left in the first half when the Ducks came up with three consecutive sacks — by Dion Jordan, Michael Clay and Wade Keliikipi — to push the Cougars back 28 yards and out of scoring range.

Key stat

It would be the 182 receiving yards for WSU's Marquess Wilson, which enabled him to break the school receiving-yardage record. The 2,893 career yards by the junior surpasses Brandon Gibson, who had 2,756 in 2005-08.

Next

Saturday, at Oregon State, 3 p.m.

By the numbers

-8 Total rushing yardage for WSU, mostly because Halliday was sacked for minus-46 yards rushing.

9 Oregon first downs in the second half before the Cougars got their first.
