Truth is, Paul Ryan has no answers
Paul Ryan is clueless. He implied as much when Fox News’ Chris Wallace noted the GOP vice presidential nominee has not offered the math behind the Romney-Ryan tax plan. “I don’t have the It would take me too long to go through all of the math,” Ryan said.
Credit him with an adroit recovery from a near plunge into the abyss of candor.
A pernicious lack of details has haunted the Republican ticket on a growing list of topics: budget plans, tax revisions, health care repeals, Medicare overhauls and foreign policy. Ryan dodges another request for specifics with his suggestion that voters would get bored.
Right, the voters would be overwhelmed by policy ennui if the congressman from Wisconsin outlined a central theme of his party’s quest for the White House. Voters could not grasp the details on a topic that touches the spectrum from household budgets to the stability of the national economy.
Ryan was hardly in hostile territory on Fox News. The fact is even sympathetic conservatives are perplexed by the epic lack of details from two candidates who promote themselves as savvy insiders and grand thinkers. Glib evasions take their toll. The detail-free candidates are either getting bad advice, or ignoring good advice to open up.
