Editorial: Cindy Ryu, Ruth Kagi for 32nd Legislative District
Retain Reps. Cindy Ryu and Ruth Kagi in the 32nd Legislative District serving North King County and South Snohomish County.
Seattle Times Editorial
Democratic state Rep. Cindy Ryu had a good freshman term in Olympia because her work representing the 32nd District in northwest King and southwest Snohomish counties was an extension of past service.
Ryu, a former mayor of Shoreline, a small-business owner and former president of the Shoreline Chamber of Commerce, was well prepared to work on tough issues around the budget and economic development.
She focused her experience on House committees that included Business & Financial Services, Community & Economic Development & Housing, and Transportation. With three pieces of legislation related to small business and consumer protection to her credit, she had a strong first term.
Republican challenger Randy Hayden, of Edmonds, does not have the preparation to replace Ryu, or make a case why voters should not send her back to Olympia.
For Position 2, another strong endorsement for Democratic state Rep. Ruth Kagi, a seasoned, effective voice in Olympia. She chairs the Early Learning & Human Services Committee.
Kagi helped pass legislation to reduce fraudulent activity in public-assistance programs, and institute child-welfare reforms and early-learning programs. She also led efforts to improve truck-safety requirements.
The residents of the 32nd District are well served by Ryu and Kagi.
