Seattle Times columnist

I'm currently reading the new Tori Spelling memoir, and I'm not even ashamed to admit it. In print. I may or may not shield the cover of the book when reading in public spaces such as the bus. Just saying.

This is all relevant because I recently had a conversation with Congressman Dave Reichert about "The Capture of the Green River Killer," which is based on his book and airs at 8 p.m. Sunday on Lifetime Television For Women. Tori Spelling is the poster girl for bad — and by that I mean "awesome" — Lifetime movies, usually involving cheerleaders and death. Are we all caught up now? Moving on.

In the made-for-TV version of his life, Reichert is played by Tom Cavanagh of "Ed" fame, whom Reichert described to me thusly: "He's the father in a PG-rated movie about eating fried worms. I watched it with my grandkids. It's on HBO." So there you have it.

(For more, look for an interview with Reichert Sunday in NW Arts&Life.)

So is the congressman now going Hollywood? "No," he laughed. "I'm thinking someday, I'd really like to go fishing." ...

AMERICAN IDOL FINALIST Kristy Lee Cook claims Selma, Ore., as her hometown, but she was born in Seattle. Then again, I think we're OK not claiming her: Cook's online bio lists her favorite quote as "Rope it, ride it, wrestle it, cowgirl it." Um, who said that, Britney Spears? ...

A BELATED BIRTHDAY wish to Erin Harper, the Seattle bachelorette who turned 25 the day she appeared on last week's premiere of "The Bachelor" on ABC. The biological clock is not yet ticking, but the countdown on the 15 minutes of fame-o-meter starts ... now. ...

EASTSIDE UPSIDE-DOWN SALE: Six Eastside boutiques are doing some serious spring cleaning of their off-season designer duds, which means bargain-basement deals at Chinook Middle School gymnasium in Bellevue this weekend (www.poshonmain.com or 425-454-2022). This is the type of sale you're supposed to keep hush-hush, so don't tell anyone. ...

RANDOM FIND OF THE WEEK: "Jumpseat bags," made of vintage fabric from airplane seats, in the Museum of Flight gift shop. They're at the height of aviator fashion! Ha! ...

I LOVE PARIS IN THE SPRINGTIME: "The Hills: Paris Edition" — aka the most trash-tastic show on television — is back on MTV, and star Lauren Conrad has achieved the dubious honor of being a cover girl for both the WSJ's Weekend Journal and tab-fabulous Us Weekly in the same week. In related news: I like to make up words. ...

CELEBRITY SIGHTINGS ROUNDUP: Shaquille O'Neal signing autographs in the lobby of the W hotel ... Emmitt Smith dining at the bar at Coupage in Madrona ... Aaron Eckhart filming scenes from his upcoming film "Traveling" (co-starring Jennifer Aniston) at Pike Place Market ... Glenn Close having a light breakfast at Sazerac ... Professor Stephen Hawking eating oysters and four plates of grilled tomatoes at Elliott's Oyster House ... Ichiro on the cover of ESPN The Magazine's 10th anniversary issue celebrating, among other things, fashion. He's like the gift that keeps on giving to Seattle.
