Prep Roundup: All-State games Saturday

Melissa Richardson, who led Issaquah to the championship game of the Class 3A state girls basketball tournament, is among the top players expected to participate in the Washington State Coaches Association All-State games Saturday at Jefferson High School in Auburn.

Richardson will be part of the Class 3A/2A West team that also includes Jennifer Osgood of Vashon and Kaysie Kiel of White River. The 3A/2A West team plays the 3A/2A East squad at 3 p.m.

The first game features the 1A/B all-stars at 1 p.m.

LeeAnn Palo of Woodinville, who keyed the Falcons' best season in school history, headlines the 4A West team, which also includes Vivian Frieson of Garfield, Daesha Henderson of Snohomish and Amanda Dunbar of Marysville-Pilchuck. They play at 5 p.m. against an East squad that features two players from 4A runner-up Prairie, Katie Madison and Amy Donovan.

This is the third straight year the All-State games have been played at Jefferson.

Notes

• Seattle Prep's Ben Panther and Dan Lockett combined to no-hit Sammamish in the Panthers' 12-0, five-inning baseball victory.

• Kennedy's Karli Merlich allowed no hits and struck out 13 in a 12-0, five-inning win over Franklin Pierce in a nonleague fastpitch game.

Nectaly Barbosa of Prosser won the boys 800 meters last weeend at the National Scholastic Indoor Championships in New York. He won in 1 minute, 52.40 seconds, the second-fastest time for a high-school junior in the nation's history. Michael Granville of Bell Gardens, Calif., set the record in 1995 with a 1:50.55, also at the NSIC meet.
