Eastside stars of the week

Brandon Yakaboski, Mount Si football

The 6-foot, 196-pound senior gained 215 yards on 17 carries and scored four touchdowns as the Wildcats shut out Sammamish 46-0 in a KingCo 3A season opener. Yakaboski had TD runs of 3, 20 and 35 yards, and scored on a 63-yard reception.

Emily Sikma, Eastlake volleyball

Sikma, a 6-foot senior middle hitter and team captain, had a strong performance at the inaugural Emerald City Invitational. She totaled 28 kills with a hitting percentage of .444, 10 digs and nine blocks in eight matches (16 games) as the Wolves placed sixth.

Mercer Island football team

The Islanders, coached by Dick Nicholl, edged Inglemoor 17-14 on Greg Mahony's 30-yard field goal in the final minute to win the nonleague season opener. Timothy Wettack and Steven Frankel each had a rushing touchdown for Mercer Island.
