Bainbridge senior Cheyne Clark cleared 15 feet in the boys pole vault Wednesday to win the Metro League title in the event for the third straight year.
Entering this week, only three vaulters in the state had cleared 15 feet this season.
After four events in chilly conditions at the Southwest Athletic Complex, Bishop Blanchet leads the boys' team scoring with 29 ½ points. O'Dea, trying to win for the 11th consecutive year, is sixth with 16 points.
Seattle Prep leads girls scoring with 29 points. Holy Names, seeking its sixth straight title, is second with 26.
The meet concludes Friday.
Holy Names senior Chelsea Burns won the girls 3,200 meters for the third straight year, this time with a clocking of 11:22.13.
In the only boys running final of the day, Seattle Prep junior Erik Berg won the 1,600 in 4:23.73.
University of Washington football recruit Alameda Ta'amu of Rainier Beach won the boys shot put for the second straight year, this time with a heave of 51-11.
Two jumpers successfully defended their titles. West Seattle senior Christian Crain won the boys triple jump at 44-5 ½ and Olivia Ward, a Cleveland junior, won the girls long jump by going 17-0.
Alice Verhovek of Holy Names won the girls high jump on fewer misses at 4-10, a mark also cleared by Emi Lawson of Lakeside.
• Mount Rainier's Ryan Prentice, the Class 3A state leader in the 1,600, held off Lindbergh's Matt Miland by less than half a second to win the Seamount League title in the event at Highline Stadium.
• In the WesCo North meet in Snohomish, Joey Bywater, defending 4A state champ in the 1,600 and 3,200, led a 1-2-3 sweep of the top three places by Lake Stevens in the 1,600.
• Snohomish's Jessica Yates had a winning long jump of 18-5 ½ in the WesCo North finals at Snohomish, the second-best reported mark in the state.
