Joe Hardy of Seattle Prep and Andrea Masterson of Lakeside were runaway winners in the Sea-King 3A District cross country championships Thursday at Lower Woodland Park in Seattle.

Hardy, a junior coming off a record-smashing performance at Lower Woodland a week ago, won the 3.1-mile boys race in 15 minutes, 25.36 seconds. He finished more than 13 seconds faster than runner-up Andrew Foerder, a junior from Nathan Hale.

Last week in the Metro League championships, Hardy shattered former Seattle Prep runner Max O'Donoghue-McDonald's six-year-old course record at Lower Woodland by 15 seconds, winning in 15:07.15.

Hardy, who placed fourth in the state championships last year, will be among the boys favorites in the Class 3A state meet Nov. 3 at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco.

Nathan Hale had four of the top 10 boys finishers — Foerder, Max Leach (fifth), Stuart Smith (eighth) and Abebe Ferede (10th) — to claim the team championship with 43 points. Seattle Prep was next with 75, followed by third-place Bellevue with 102.

Bellevue senior Spike Sievert was the top KingCo boys finisher in the Sea-King meet, placing third.

In the girls race, Lakeside's Masterson, who placed 10th at state as a freshman a year ago, finished in 18:30.10 for a comfortable victory over runner-up Megan Chucka of Liberty (18:45.51). Rebecca Delacruz-Gunderson of Lakeside was third.

Liberty (65 points) edged Lakeside (74) for the girls team crown, followed by Bishop Blanchet (100) and Interlake (105).
