WENATCHEE — Newport coaches felt like their team was playing its best basketball of the season. Turns out that is the case.

Newport held off a rally from No. 7 Eastmont for a 48-41 win in the Class 4A boys regionals at Wenatchee High School Saturday.

The Knights, who had to win four loser-out games to even reach this point, advance to the Tacoma Dome as one of eight teams still playing in Class 4A. The state tournament starts Thursday.

Will Ferris, Newport's leading scorer, led the way again with 13 points while Calvin Throckmorton added 12 points and 10 rebounds.

"Everybody just stepped up and played absolutely amazing," Newport coach Steve Haizlip said.

Newport (18-8) led by nine at halftime, but Eastmont made a push in the second half. Newport, though, held on to win its fifth straight game.

Eastmont, of East Wenatchee, finished 19-4.
