Renton wins in OT; King's, Cedar Park Christian advance | 2A, 1A Boys

YAKIMA — Zach Lee grabbed a loose ball at midcourt and launched a three-point shot as time expired, banking in the shot and lifting Renton to a 59-56 overtime win over Sequim on Thursday in the Class 2A boys quarterfinals.

Lavelle Smith hit one of two free throws with 19.2 seconds left in regulation for Renton to knot the score at 49-49.

In the semifinals at 3:45 p.m. on Friday, the second-ranked Indians (24-2) will meet No. 3 Pullman (25-1). Top-ranked Lynden (24-1) faces No. 8 Anacortes (21-5) in the other semi at 5:30 p.m.

Smith led Renton with 17 points and seven rebounds. Jonathan Patterson added 10 points and eight rebounds and Jordan Holland had 10 rebounds for the Indians, who out-rebounded Sequim 50-27.

Jayson Brocklesby paced No. 7 Sequim (21-5) with 16 points.

Class 1A

King's 58, Granger 31

At the Yakima SunDome, King's went 7 of 16 from three-point distance and was never challenged after building a 17-5 first-quarter lead. David Barhanovich scored 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting with a pair of threes for the Knights from Shoreline.

In the semifinals, King's (20-6) plays defending champ Lynden Christian at 7:15 p.m. The Lyncs (22-5) beat Cashmere 60-51.

Cedar Park Christian (Bothell) 61,

Seattle Academy 43

Evan Scholten scored 19 points and Luke Saufferer 18 for the Eagles (21-2), who used a 23-2 run in the third quarter to beat the Cardinals (21-2).

Cedar Park Christian faces Toledo (24-1) in the semifinals at 9 p.m. Friday. Toledo hammered Okanogan 58-43 in another opener.

Calin Washington scored 19 for Seattle Academy, which shot just 21 percent (6 of 28) after halftime.
