TACOMA – Josiah Greene tuned out his phone and turned on the film.

Over and over he watched the crushing end to Neah Bay’s bid for a second straight 1B football championship last year as Liberty Christian won on the final play.

“I shut down emotionally for a whole week,” Greene recalled. “I didn’t want to talk to anybody.”

He’ll watch this game film over and over, too, he admits, but with a smile. This time, in Friday’s 1B final against Touchet in the Tacoma Dome, Greene helped the top-ranked Red Devils pull away for a 36-18 victory.

“I’m just so happy that we won,” the senior quarterback said. “We’ve been waiting all year for this.”

The Red Devils (12-0) converted nine of 14 third downs and piled up 409 yards rushing — 183 by Cody Cummins (6-3, 190) and 145 by Greene (6-1, 200), with fullback Cody McCaulley (5-10, 265), the coach’s son, leading the way.

Touchet (12-2) jumped up 12-0 on a pair of touchdown passes by Elias Martinez, but failed to score again until the final play of the game, a 2-yard toss to Colton Goble.

Martinez finished with 195 yards passing and 76 of his team’s 128 rushing yards.
