Anthony Rogers, Federal Way boys basketball

There’s hot and then there’s sizzling. That’s what Rogers was on Friday. The senior guard sank a school-record nine three-pointers (on just 12 attempts) en route to a career-high 31 points, leading the Eagles to an 84-70 victory over Puyallup. “He’s really worked hard on his shooting since his freshman year,” coach Jerome Collins said. “As I always say, shooters are made, not born.”

Kayla Zabel, Cascade girls bowling

Zabel, a senior, showed she’s a contender to capture a state title as she won the 4A West Central District tournament at Pacific Lanes in Tacoma with a season-high 680 series. She bowled games of 225, 234 and 221, leading the Bruins to a third-place finish as a team. “She’s the hardest working bowler I’ve had for a lot of years,” coach Ron Hicks said. “She works on her game consistently every day.”

Issaquah boys basketball team

Coach Jason Griffith’s crew handed top-ranked Garfield its first loss of the season, 65-63, and did it on the Bulldogs’ home court. Ty Gibson poured in 27 points, hitting what proved to be the winning three-pointer with 5.1 seconds to play.
