Washington men's crews begin competition today at the 104th annual Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships on the Copper River in New Jersey.
Last year, the Husky varsity eight finished fourth and the second varsity eight (formerly called the junior-varsity eight) and open-four won titles.
The Huskies' varsity eight is seeded seventh. Princeton is No. 1 followed by Pac-10 champion California and defending IRA champion Harvard.
Washington won at least one event at each of the last five IRA regattas, including the second varsity eight and open four in 2005.
The Huskies have won 11 IRA varsity eights, the last in 1997.
The regatta runs through Saturday.
