Washington spent a week working on its defense and it paid off against South Florida.

Too bad for the Huskies, they slipped on offense.

South Florida scored the game's last 12 points in the final 3:35 to pull away for a 61-50 win on Friday in Tampa, Fla.

UW committed five turnovers in the final 3:10, and had 27 for the game.

"That hurt us quite a bit despite the 22 we had prior to that," Washington coach Tia Jackson said.

USF freshman Kaneisha Saunders made 8 of 10 free throws in the final 3:35 to secure the win. She led her team with 16 points.

"We haven't seen that type of athlete," said Jackson of USF, which plays in the Big East along with No. 1 Connecticut, which defeated UW by 58 points last year. "But we will see a similar style come Sunday."

Washington (2-4) will complete its two-game road trip at Central Florida (2-1), which advanced to the NCAA tournament despite a 2-11 start last season.

USF (6-2) is the defending WNIT champion.

The Huskies handled the Bulls on the boards, holding senior Jessica Lawson to seven. A 6-foot-3 post, she entered the game averaging 13.1.

UW sophomore center Regina Rogers had four blocks to complement her team-high 11 points and six boards.

Although UW forced 22 turnovers, the Huskies couldn't figure a consistent way to run their offense against the Bulls. Washington's scoring leader, Sami Whitcomb, missed all six of her field-goal attempts and backcourt teammate Sara Mosiman was held to 1-for-6 shooting.

"It just wasn't their scoring day," Jackson said.
