UW men in 64-team NCAA tennis field

Washington's men's tennis team will play Notre Dame on May 10 in the first round of the 64-team NCAA tournament.

Washington's men's tennis team will play Notre Dame on May 10 in Columbus, Ohio, in the first round of the 64-team NCAA tournament.

Fifth-seeded Ohio State (31-2) will host Cleveland State (12-11), with the winner meeting Washington (17-11) or Notre Dame (19-7) the following day.

"We've had an up-and-down season," UW coach Matt Anger said. "It's a new season now and the guys are eager to get back out there."

The survivor of the Columbus regional advances to the NCAA Finals in Urbana, Ill., May 16-27.


Sam Munger tossed a three-hitter and Lacey McGladrey drove in four runs as top-seeded Saint Martin's defeated Central Washington 8-0 in the opening round of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference tournament in Billings, Mont. On Friday, the Saints (37-13) play Simon Fraser (28-21), which upset second-seeded Western Oregon 3-2. CWU (19-19) plays Western Oregon (27-25) in a loser-out game Friday.


Washington leads Oregon by one point, with Idaho and British Columbia another half-point behind after the first day of play in the PNGA Cup at Crane Creek Country Club in Boise, Idaho.
