Play of the game
With 4:53 left in the game and Washington trailing 13-10, Washington quarterback Keith Price threw a quick hitch pass to Kasen Williams along the right sideline. Williams juked Stanford cornerback Terrance Brown, broke free and scored after juggling the ball down the sideline.
Star of the game
You could name about eight Huskies on the defensive side, but physical linebacker Thomas Tutogi, who had a team-leading 10 tackles, stood out about as dramatically as anybody.
Turning point
It really didn't happen until the Price-to-Williams hookup, but it was Bishop Sankey's 61-yard run late in the third quarter that reignited the passion for the Huskies after they had fallen behind 13-3.
Quote of the day
"I thought if we could get away from the armored front they have, if we could get to the second level, we'd have a chance to make some plays. The challenge was getting there." — UW coach Steve Sarkisian
Key stat
Washington, which had allowed 1,289 rushing yards to Stanford the past four years, surrendered just 65 yards on the ground to the physical Cardinal and forced Stanford quarterback Josh Nunes to have to throw.
A try at tailback
The Huskies pulled out all the stops early on, and one big surprise was Kendyl Taylor — a true freshman who played in the first three games as a receiver — getting a few carries as a tailback.
He had 9 yards on four carries. Taylor rushed for 588 yards last year as a senior at Hamilton High in Chandler, Ariz.
