Players of the game

Huskies tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins caught eight passes for 152 yards, including a 29-yard touchdown catch that gave Washington a 14-13 lead late in the third quarter.

Washington running back Bishop Sankey gained 189 yards on 29 carries, scoring twice.

Plays of the game

Just before his touchdown catch, Seferian-Jenkins made a great play to haul in a 43-yard pass from Keith Price, setting up the Huskies at the Cal 9-yard line.

Late in the game, the Huskies stopped the Bears' final drive by forcing three straight incompletions from the UW 25-yard line.

Turning point

With just more than six minutes to play, Cal was driving, near midfield. But Cal quarterback Zach Maynard threw a pass right to Huskies freshman Shaq Thompson, who returned the interception 33 yards to the Bears' 28-yard line. The turnover was the fourth in four possessions. The Huskies handed the ball to Sankey four straight times, the last carry for a 1-yard touchdown that gave UW a 21-13 lead.

Key injuries

Maynard suffered a knee injury on the Bears' final drive and had to leave the game. For the Huskies, cornerback Desmond Trufant left in the second quarter with what was reported to be a hamstring issue.
