Some girls have all the luck

Sure, Tony and Eva partied with the desperate housewives at a French castle following their nuptials on 7-7-07, but who had the foresight to book the Space Needle on that lucky date? It was Jamie Kern, a weekend news anchor at KPTV in Portland whose laundry list of accomplishments — former Miss Washington USA, graduation speaker at Columbia Business School, reality-TV contestant on "Big Brother" season one — generally makes me feel like a mortifying failure.

"I would not be surprised if she booked it before they were engaged, knowing her," said the bride's brother, Dennis Daugs of Seattle.

Indeed, she was the type of bride to map out her wedding day in 15-minute increments on an Excel spreadsheet, yet spontaneous enough to jump in the fountain at the base of the Space Needle in her couture gown. In went her new husband, Paulo Lima — an investment banker she met in business school — and the entire bridal party, including KOMO-TV's Natasha Curry, who was maid of honor.

The couple booked the Space Needle for their reception a year and a half ago.

"I don't think they realized how popular that date would be at the time," Jamie said. "They got bombarded with calls. The Space Needle called me and said, 'We should have charged you a whole lot more.' " ...

Speaking of happy couples: After appearing in these pages last month, unrequited loves Dolly the PR Pig and Hugely Pigtacular — two of the Pike Place Market's Pigs on Parade — have secured their first date. A vintage flatbed truck will chauffeur the pair to a special table for two at the Market's annual Sunset Supper on Aug. 10. "We'd love to be supportive of this blossoming romance," said Lynda Woods of the Market Foundation. "Dolly plans to be wearing a corsage from Martha Harris, of course."

So, yes, it appears that these little piggies will go to Market — and Dolly will go "Whee! Whee! Whee!" all the way home. ...

A beauty queen on steroids? If only that were as scandalous as it sounds, I wouldn't have to make jokes out of nursery rhymes. Allison Rone, aka Miss Emerald City, came down with mono the week of the Miss Washington pageant at Tacoma's Pantages Theater. She was given a high dose of anti-inflammatory steroids and worried that the hot stage lights might kick up her fever, and then she'd have to go to the ER instead of the after-party.

Miss Emerald City, who is actually from Tacoma, managed to make it to the top 10, but was cut before the Q&A portion of the competition, which is probably just as well.

"I hadn't slept in about three days by the time the curtain went down," she said. "You feel like you're hanging on a string, out on a precipice." ...

When President Roh Moo-Hyun of South Korea stopped briefly in Seattle last month en route to Guatemala City, someone had to entertain members of the president's detail. So it was that Lisa Nourse of Wilson PR found herself dining at Canlis with former colleague Nathan Hambley and the president's personal physician, among others, on June 30.

Despite the fancy spread — which included New York steak, kona kampachi and chocolate lava cake — the doctor seemed most impressed with Lisa's chauffeuring abilities. "He was just kind of laughing. I think he thought it was funny that I was driving," Lisa said. "When the wine list at Canlis came out, Nathan was looking at it and the doctor goes, 'Why don't you let her choose?' "
