Food Network catches the bouquet

Kim Miyake and Shawn Zook were married in a candlelit tent filled with orchids at the Woodmark Hotel in Kirkland last weekend. The date was hastily moved up from August after the bride's father was diagnosed with lung cancer; on Sunday, he walked her down the aisle.

"Everything was perfect," said wedding coordinator Kelley Moore. "It was beautiful."

Behind the scenes was a different story. Planning a wedding for 150 guests in six weeks is a challenge, and Moore, a lifestyle expert, hadn't done a wedding in four years. Local vendors including Athena Floral, AriaStyle and Trophy Cupcakes helped by donating their services, but then there was the matter of the iron-willed celebrity chef: Robert Irvine, star of the Food Network show "Dinner Impossible."

"He catered Princess Diana and Prince Charles' wedding; he's very good at what he does," Moore said. "He's also very opinionated. We both had a mission, and we had some throwdowns in the kitchen."

Happily (ever after), Food Network cameras captured the drama, which will air during the network's "Wedding Week" on April 30. ...

SPEAKING OF WEDDINGS: Actress Hilary Swank was spotted at her brother's nuptials at Tulio in downtown Seattle. The intimate ceremony and reception — about 30 guests, mostly family — were held upstairs in the restaurant's private room. Swank wore a burgundy sleeveless gown, and reportedly was as unpretentious as could be, which is what we'd expect from a nice girl from Bellingham. P.S. We Love You. ...

WILL THE REAL WILL FERRELL please stand up? The actor made a surprise appearance last weekend at a local benefit for Cancer for College at the Museum of History & Industry, where 14 students received college scholarships. When Central Washington University junior and lymphoma survivor Will Farrell tried to accept his award, the other Will Ferrell approached the podium, saying, "I'm not in college and I've never had cancer, but I'm going to keep the money." Ferrell, who spent a total of about seven hours in Seattle, posed for pictures, signed autographs and then hopped in a car to Sea-Tac. The actor is a supporter and friend of Cancer for College founder Craig Pollard, who was his fraternity brother at USC. ...

IT'S COLD OUTSIDE, but some of Seattle's boldfaced names kicked up their heels at an old-fashioned Western hoedown at local celeb chef Russell Lowell's "barn" (and grill) in Bothell. Turns out there's no better way to beat the winter doldrums. Spotted: Former PNB star Patricia Barker line-dancing, Charles Simonyi square dancing and co-host JJ McKay riding the mechanical bull. ...

GAME ON at the 20th annual Super Bowl Sale today at Mario's in downtown Seattle, where women's sale items are marked down another 50 percent. Kickoff is at 11 a.m., but fans are expected to line up hours early to tackle deals on Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Narciso Rodriguez and Christian Louboutin. Of course, the must-have accessory this season is Tom Brady on your arm. ...

CELEBRITY SIGHTINGS ROUNDUP: Glenn Close in black nylon ski boots, black tights and a puffy black jacket at Hotel Monaco ... Hilary Swank getting a mani/pedi in Pink Ribbon at Butter London in Westlake Center ... Nick Verreos wearing a fur-trimmed Marc Jacobs coat at Boom Noodle on Capitol Hill ... José Carreras of The Three Tenors posing for a photo in front of the fountain at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, where he was successfully treated for leukemia in 1987.
