Wavy new sounds from Seattle's Hibou and Space Dolphin

"Hollow" by Hibou

"Swim Equinox" by Space Dolphin

Trop-pop and seapunk: do those genres mean anything to you? No? Well, they're both part of a movement among millennial musicians to return to the ocean, to devolve into a simpler state. At least that's my take. On that note, check out new music from under-the-surface Seattle musicians Hibou and Space Dolphin, which could be filed under those categories, respectively. Hibou is Peter Michel, the old drummer from the band Craft Spells, now self-recording mechanized pop music with a wistful bent. Space Dolphin is Damon Johnson, maker of rippling, lapping hip-hop productions. Local music that sounds like sunsets. I took the photo above while standing on the beach on Guemes Island.
