Activists jailed in Israel

Posted by Letters editor

Page-one worthy story

Thank you for your story about Israel’s anti-democratic behavior in the Sunday paper [“Israel jails pro-Palestinian activists,” News, July 10]. Unfortunately, you placed the story on page eight instead of page one.

It is important to continue to publicize the misbehavior of the Israeli government and military as they face increasing criticism for their treatment of Palestinians in their midst.

While the Palestinians continue to search for peace through negotiations, Israel continues to destroy homes, orchards and villages, and build settlements and fill them with radical right-wing believers.

One important question the story omitted was: Why is there no international airport in Palestine?

Answer: Israel will not allow it.

We praise the people of Sudan for developing a new nation and give them the recognition they deserve, but we continue to ignore the plight and suffering of the Palestinian people to our shame. Already the hue and cry has gone up to refuse them recognition at the United Nations.

— Mr. and Mrs. Richard K. Gibson, Lynnwood
