Apology for silence on drones
Once again, acquiring the surveillance drones seems to be another absurd decision made by someone in Seattle City Council. [“Apology for silence on drones,” NWThursday, May 3.] First, a drone with 10-minutes flight time? Can’t fly above crowds or at night? There are “toy” helicopters with more flight time, and there are camera attachments. These virtual toys are limited: 400-feet height limit may be fine; radio control in line of sight, not so much.
It was explained they would have been useful in the latest search for the “end of the world” bunker off I-90. I doubt this very much.
It will be great to know the total costs each of these. While not in the same venue of use, I think the money would have been better invested in the personal wearable cameras, and this for the officer’s protection. Further, they would possibly have been able to charge more of the guilty hoods in the riots.
