Superstorm Sandy coverage
Need for whole truth
Lately, I've been reading and hearing tons about superstorm Sandy on the news and its devastating effects on the East Coast. However one thing I've heard very little about is its effects in Cuba and Haiti. Superstorm Sandy hit those two countries too, also with devastating effects, but personally I've heard virtually nothing about that in the American media.
While I understand that it’s natural to make our own national news priority, it was a rude reminder how much international news is left out or twisted by the U.S. news corporations.
I’m not saying we shouldn't be talking about the East Coast — because we should and we should be doing what we can to help out the victims. But I don’t see why in the same news report, we can’t hear the other side too and the full consequences the storm has had. Superstorm Sandy is only one of many examples where American news tends to not tell the whole story, which is something we have a right to know.
