Romney: Obama used 'gifts' to win presidential election

Priceless gifts

In “Romney: Obama won with ‘gifts’ to voters,” [News, Nov. 15], Mitt Romney is right. Obama lavishly gifted minorities, young people and women with items that were priceless: respect; inclusion; a place at the table; a fork and a napkin to take part of our nation's feast; the harvest of hard work, equality and true opportunity that our nation stands for.

Romney and his party should lay aside the silver spoon and take heed.

— Mitzi Simmons, Seattle

Romney’s entitlement

Mitt Romney’s assessment of President Obama’s election victory echoes the atmosphere of entitlement that surrounded his campaign and ultimately led to his defeat. President Obama’s “gift” is to think that it is important to take care of all our citizens, not just the wealthy, white males.

Romney’s remarks show that he does not get “the big picture.” The big picture has changed dramatically and it is he and the Republican Party who refuse to see it.
