New cameras in school zones snap speeders

Scheme to increase city revenue

Ah, once again the city has need a new way to generate revenue [“New cameras to snap school-zone speeders,” page one, Nov. 13].

Being a parent, I am a very careful person in school zones. Granted, my child is now an adult, but I would expect most (preferably all) drivers take care in school zones. I guess the reasoning by the City Council is the safety of the children, yet I know of no incidents myself where a child has been hit by a speeding driver at any of these school zones.

The other odd thing is that the ticket is $189 when most other tickets are an arbitrary $124. So I think it is all about revenue and not safety of our children.

This city leadership just refuses to look at a another revenue sources — cyclists. The number of cyclists keeps growing creating an obvious revenue source. But we must not upset the yin and yang of the city cyclist by actually asking they license their bicycles and have insurance. Stop this war on cars and look at revenue from a growing source — commuting cyclists.
