Dangers and benefits of soy products

Sign 1-522 to support GM labeling

Soy has always been thought of as the healthy alternative to supplementing one’s diet when dairy or other forms of protein are not an option [“Let’s talk about the vices and virtues of soy,” Pacific NW, Nov. 16]. Today, soy, besides corn, is one of the most commonly genetically modified (GM) processed foods on the market. What needs to be addressed is the negative health impacts of GM soy.

In industrial production, cows are forced fed a diet of grains that contain GM soy. Consequently, more fat that is known to cause high cholesterol and obesity is produced than omega-3 fatty acids (the “good” fat).

Washington state is fighting to mark GM foods in our state. Take action by signing I-522, giving support to label any kind of GM food in Washington. Anyone can make an impact on the movement against GM foods and industrial animals by making informed decisions about what they eat.
