Stevens Pass ski area opened for the season today, reporting a 48-inch snow base, including 8 inches of fresh snow overnight.
Stevens is the fifth Western Washington ski area to open this month, as recent storms have brought substantial snowstorms to the Cascades. Crystal Mountain resort, Mount Baker and White Pass ski areas, and the Summit West area of the Summit at Snoqualmie opened last week.
Snow continued to fall in some parts of the Cascades today, though possible rain is in the forecast. Temperatures are expected to dip over the weekend, with more snow, according to the National Weather Service.
Stevens is operating the SkyLine, Hogsback, Daisy, Brooks, Kehr's Chair and Tye Mill lifts today from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be no night skiing, and the resort reports "early season conditions." Skiers are advised to stick to groomed runs.
All-day lift tickets for adults are $63 with tax, or $60 online if you have an established account. Details: 206-812-4510 or www.stevenspass.com.
