For the first time since the 1960s, the historic lightship Number 83 will shine its beacon onto Lake Union, just as it once guided mariners to safety at ports along the west coast.
The light will be turned on Friday night around 10 p.m., marking the start of the 35th annual Lake Union Wooden Boat Festival and a new chapter for the lightship, now called Swiftsure,the only U.S. lightship that still has its original marine steam engine and one of only a handful that served at all five west coast ports.
