Michael Soike, Seattle

Photo taken: Oct. 9, Beacon Hill

Photographer's description:

"Used Canon 5D Mark II with a 17-40mm f/4L lens at 19 exposures over four hours to capture the crossing of day to night in one image."

Expert says: "This is a very creative photo that gets the viewer to look closer. I love that I can see the twinkle of the stars and the sunset in a single photo because of the multiple exposures. This photo would be very different during any other season; all of the key elements aligned to make this shot succeed — the moon, sun, sky clarity and changing tree color."
